Koglot Winery

About us

From generation to generation.

Tradition.

For four generations the members of the Koglot family have preserved, with respect and diligence, our century-old homestead and the vineyards around Vrtojba and elsewhere across the Vipava Valley.

Wine has always been present here, and in the second half of the last century winegrowing became our predominant activity. We combine modern knowledge and technology with traditional production methods and the know-how of earlier generations.

Since the autumn of 2022 the homestead has also housed a small ethnological collection, “Heritage from our pantry”, with tools and objects from everyday life of the past.

Faithful to the land.

Our land.

As true “Vrtojbans”, we have always been faithful to the land and are aware that it gives us as much as the love and effort we invest in the vineyard throughout the year.

The vine demands much attention and care — pruning, bending, tying and removing side shoots — so that in autumn, at the harvest, it rewards us with excellent grapes.

Careful hands pick the grapes and press them into juice, and then time, patience and the creativity of our experienced cellar master Matej ensure that it is reborn as a noble drop.

The westernmost cellar in the Vipava Valley.

The cellar.

Our cellar is the westernmost in the Vipava Valley — where the valley almost touches the Italian border.

Our wines are marked by harmony and fullness of taste. Malvasia stands out, made in both a fresh and a macerated version. Our sparkling wine also holds a special place, produced by the classical method from a blend of Malvasia and Pinot Noir. The range is completed by Chardonnay, Marselan, a rosé of Merlot, vermouth and other wines that reflect the diversity of our cellar.

Distilling.

At our homestead we keep one of the oldest brick stills in Slovenia — and it still serves its purpose today.

Thanks to patience, careful work and skills acquired from the experience of past generations, a beneficial drop has been flowing from it ever since 1926.

Following traditional recipes and procedures we make brandy, gin, barrel-aged grape brandy and other spirits. Discover our range of spirits.
